If we graph the slope of the Total Output curve we get the graph to the right, the Marginal Product (MP) of a factor of production.

    It is decreasing because of the law of diminishing returns, first studied in the section on Costs. Diminishing returns simply means that adding more of one input when at least one other is fixed in supply increases output at a decreasing rate.
