If the firm faces a downward sloping demand curve its Marginal Revenue curve lies below its demand curve. In this case MRP = MR x MP. The MRP curve will be less elastic (shown as steeper) for firms who operate in imperfectly competitive output markets since their Marginal Revenue curves are downward sloping rather than horizontal as in the case of firms who are perfectly competitive in output markets.
