Finally, we'll take a look at a price change on our more general budget constraint. On the graph to the right we show the effect of an increase in the price of the good on the vertical axis.

    And increase in the price of good Y from PY to P'Y means that our consumer can afford less of good Y when all her income is spent on that good. Thus, the vertical intercept is lower and the budget constraint is now flatter.
