We've learned that marginal willingness to pay and marginal utility can be thought of as the same thing. We also saw that a graph of marginal utility or marginal willingness to pay is also a graph of the demand curve, and that as a result, total utility can be represented by the area under the demand curve

    We saw that, due to diminishing marginal utility, total utility increases at a decreasing rate. If we graph total utility against quantity consumed we see that the graph is upward sloping, but that it becomes less steep as marginal utility falls. Finally, we learned that the slope of the total utility graph is marginal utility.
