An increase in demand, as shown to the right, means that the equilibrium price will increase from P* to P2 and the equilibrium quantity from Q* to Q2.

    An increase in demand alone will always lead to an increase in both equilibrium price and equilibrium quantity. Likewise, if we observe both price and quantity sold rising, the explanation will lie in some factor causing demand to increase.
