To the right is the computation, using the simplified formula,
of the cross-price elasticity of demand for tires with respect
to the price of gasoline. As expected it is negative, since the
two are complements. The effect probably wouldn't be this large in actuality, but
the numbers were chosen for ease of computation for the purposes
of this example.
Let's try the same computation using the arc elasticity formula...
