Shift in input supply curves come about for all the same reasons as shifts in supply of final goods and services. The shift from SF1 to SF2 could have been casued by a drop in the cost of one or more of the inputs into producing this input (say this is the supply of hand-held circular saws and there was a reduction in the cost of the electric motors used to drive the blade).

The shift from SF1 to SF3 could have been the result of an increase in the price paid for belt sanders produced by the same company that produces the circular saws.
