Fixed costs change when any one or more of a firm's fixed factors change in cost. We've really only considered a few factors that can lead to a change in variable costs.

Reductions in variable costs:
Reduction in the cost of a variable input.
Increase in the productivity of a variable input.

Increases in variable costs:
Increase in the cost of a variable input.
Reduction in the productivity of a variable input.
