In long run equilibrium in monopolistic competition competitive
conditions will lead firms to operate with excess capacity, that
is, at a level of output lower than that for which they were designed
to operate. In terms of gas stations this suggests that, most
of the time, the pumps are underutilized and thus you can easily
pull up to one that is available.
