When she only sees
2 movies a month, if we take one away we need to compensate her
with 2 restaurant meals. The rate at which we need to compensate
her to keep her indifferent is commonly known as the Marginal Rate of Substitution (MRS). The slope of the indifference curve at any point is the MRS
at that level of consumption.
