Labor supply for an occupation will increase or decrease over time due to factors independant of wage or job openings. This is one reason labor supply is unique. People in many cultures derive much of their status and sense of self-worth from their occupations. A change in the status associated with a particular occupation will change the supply of labor to that occupation over time.
